HARIPUR: An SHO was demoted and eight cops were suspended after two suspects escaped from their custody.
District Police Officer (DPO) Shahzad Nadeem Bukhari on Sunday relegated SHO City police station Bashir Khan to Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) and suspended eight policemen including five CIA officials for negligence.
According to police, two suspects Imran and Jabran were brought into City police station, but they managed to escape within hours of their arrest.
The precinct officials tried to cover up the matter. The district police chief, according to reports, got to know about the escape of suspects from the media reports instead of police emergency alert.
DPO Haripur took the notice when the news released on local media and demoted SHO and suspended eight policemen including police moharrar Saeed, five CIA officials Ahmed Ali Mashwani, Khalid Nadeem, Shahzad and Arif while two other policemen were also punished, however, their names were not available.
