Six killed, 37 injured as bus falls off bridge in Bahawalpur

Police said that the bus rolled down the bridge due to over speeding.

At least six people were killed and 37 others were injured as a passenger bus fell off a bridge on National Highway near Chani Goth in Uch Sharif on Friday.

A police official said a passenger bus carrying more than 40 people was travelling on National Highway when the driver lost control of the vehicle near Channi Goth. As a result, the bus fell from the bridge, killing six passengers and injuring 37 others.

The police said that the bus rolled down the bridge due to over speeding. Soon after the incident, Rescue 1122 officials reached the spot and pulled the deceased and injured, who were trapped inside the bus, after cutting its body. Later, the victims were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment and legal formalities.

The doctors at the hospital said the condition of some passengers was critical. However, efforts were being made to save their lives.

Earlier, at least six persons were killed and 15 others were wounded when a passenger bus collided with a Mazda truck in Tufailabad area of Gugu Mandi near Burewala. According to details, the Karachi-bound bus collided with the Muzda truck in Tufailabad, killing four persons on the spot and injuring 17 others.
