This non-profit is sending Ramazan greeting cards to mosques across US

Sincerely Us is sending handmade cards in support of Muslim Americans

In times when hate crime is on the rise in the United States, a non-profit organisation has launched a campaign to promote unity in the month of Ramazan.

Based out of New York, Do Something describes itself as “a global movement for good”. In it’s latest campaign, titled Sincerely Us, the organisation aims to encourage participation in and honour Muslims in Ramazan by sending greeting cards with messages of support to mosques across the country.

“During the 30 days of Ramazan this summer, Muslims across the United States (and the world!) are celebrating community, compassion, and mercy, three things we all believe in. Ramazan is the perfect time for our giant, beautiful outpouring of appreciation,” the campaigners say on their website.

According to the website, 41,287 letters of support have been made by 41,003 participants.

Speaking to A plus, the campaign manager Adam Garner said some 29,000 cards have so far been delivered.

“When it's Christmas, you give your Christian neighbours a Merry Christmas card. When it's Hanukkah, you give your Jewish neighbors a Happy Hanukkah card. We thought it just made sense that when an important holiday like Ramazan happens, we should do the same thing for our Muslim neighbours,” Garner said.

"The cards we've received so far have been gorgeous and the outpouring of love from our non-Muslim members has been humbling," he added. "But the thing that really means the most for me is the members of the Muslim community that have reached out to say thank you. Every day I get messages [and in some cases written letters!] thanking us for doing this. That means the world to us.”



The project says that it highlights the “frightening levels” of hate crime against Muslim American.

“We stand for religious freedom and believe Muslim Americans deserve the same respect as any other American,” the website says. “No one should fear for their safety because of the color of their skin, the language they speak, or what holidays they celebrate. We know we can’t solve the problem of hate, but we know it is important and powerful for a generation of young people to show support to our Muslim American neighbour.”

"We'd love to take this global next year and make sure that all 1.6 billion Muslims globally are impacted by this," the campaign manager says.
