ISLAMABAD: A Senate panel on Monday expressed its displeasure over the Capital Development Authority (CDA) ignoring recommendations made by the upper house’s Food Security Committee to convert 1,400 acres land meant for the National Agricultural Research Council (NARC) into residential and commercial plots.

The Senate Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges was also annoyed over the absence of CDA Chairman Sheikh Anser Aziz from the Monday’s meeting.

The meeting was considered a privilege motion moved by the Committee on National Food Security and Research against CDA for not implementing its recommendations for converting NARC land.

The body had heard arguments on the matter from CDA Member Estate Khushal Khan at its previous meeting and had summoned the authority’s chairman and secretary for Monday’s meeting.

The committee was concerned over the lack of response from the quarters concerned and directed all relevant people to make sure they attend the next meeting so that the matter can be sorted out.

On another motion, the committee was informed that the statement given by adviser Sartaj Aziz on the matter of Islamic Military Alliance on June 2 was based on the information given by defence ministry and was in coordination with the defence minister.

The committee also decided to hear Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa IGP and senior officers from the provincial home department regarding the privilege motion of Senator Shahi Syed on the matter of police entering his house in his absence and lodge FIR against his brother for keeping arms in spite of providing licences of the weapons.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Senator Jehanzeb Jamaldini at the Parliament House on Monday and was attended among others by Senators Osman Saifullah, Farhatullah Babar, Yaqoob Nasir, Ateeq Shaikh, Shahi Syed and Saleem Zia.
