Two teenagers killed in Indian shelling along LoC

Foreign Office summons Indian Deputy High Commissioner J P Singh; condemns the violation

ISLAMABAD: Two teenagers were killed on Monday as Indian troops resorted to unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jandrot and Hot Spring sector.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), residents of Bhabra villiage, Waqar Younus, 18, and Asad Ali, 19, were killed while three other civilians sustained injuries as Indian troops fired mortars Monday morning.

The injured were identified as Muhammad Shahbaz, 30, Shumaila Khurshid, 35, and Hafsa Shabbir, 14.

The military's media wing said Pakistani troops effectively responded to the firing causing damage to Indian posts and casualties on the other side of the border.



Meanwhile, Indian Deputy High Commissioner J P Singh was summoned at the Foreign Office by DG SA & SAARC) Dr Mohammad Faisal, who condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violations.

"The deliberate targeting of civilians is indeed condemnable and contrary to human dignity and international human rights and humanitarian laws," he said.

The DG Saarc urged India to respect the 2003 Ceasefire arrangement; investigate this and other incidents of ceasefire violations, and instruct Indian forces to respect the ceasefire, in letter and spirit and maintain peace on the LoC.

The move came tow days after army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited the troops deployed along the LoC, where they assured him that no Indian misadventure shall go without a befitting response.
