5 stars who refused to be body shamed
Good for them!
Body shaming may be nothing new but more and more celebrities are starting to fight back against the practice. And who can blame them, considering the pressure on them to look, act and be perfect all the time.
Most recently, Modern Family star Sarah Hyland fought back over social media after trolls said she looked anorexic in a recent photo. Compiled from BBC News, here is a list of five other stars who countered the criticism over the way they look.
Lady Gaga
The Bad Romance hit-maker was called out after she wore a crop top during her performance at this year's Super Bowl. More than 100 million people watched the legendary half-time show worldwide, but some made cruel remarks about her stomach and said she "wasn't fit enough."
Therefore, the singer took to Instagram with an empowering message to her fans. "I heard my body is a topic of conversation so I wanted to say, I'm proud of my body and you should be proud of yours too," she said. "I could give you a million reasons why you don't need to cater to anyone or anything to succeed. Be you, and be relentlessly you."
Kate Winslet
The Oscar-winning actor has spoken about how she was bullied at school for being fat on multiple occasions. She was also "Blubber" cause of her body. "I was even told that I 'might be lucky with my acting, if I was happy to settle for the fat girl parts.' So, I felt I didn’t look right and all because I didn’t fit into someone else’s idea of ‘perfect’,” said Kate, However, she still went to audition for roles and the rest is history!
Vin Diesel
It’s not just women who get criticised for the way they look. Vin Diesel got much flak after unflattering pap shots of him shirtless in Miami surfaced online. Almost every comment on social media made fun of his "dad bod." Needless to say, Diesel was extremely offended but retaliated. “Haters be haters! Body shaming is always wrong,” he wrote.
Sonam Kapoor
Hard as it may be to believe, Sonam Kapoor has been called overweight in the past too! The actor lost a tremendous amount of weight to look like the diva she is today. She even took to Twitter to slam haters and said, “Fat shaming or skinny shaming, it’s still called body shaming!”
Zareen Khan
Last year, the Bollywood beauty posted a collage of her pictures from her school days with a long message that inspired us all. Here’s what she had to say: “In spite of being so big, I never let people’s comments or ideas about me bother me. Because it’s my life and my body and only I have the right to decide what I’m gonna do with it.”
