Benazir murder: Counsel for both sides blame Musharraf

LAHORE:

A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday adjourned proceedings in the bail petition of Benazir Bhutto murder accused Saud Aziz, former City Police Officer (CPO) of Rawalpindi, till today.

Counsels for the accused and the federal government informed the court that former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf was involved in the killing of Benazir Bhutto.

Counsel for Aziz, Khwaja Sultan, submitted that in the challan of the Bhutto murder case and the report of the United Nations commission, his client’s name was not included.

Sultan said three allegations were levelled against Aziz which included avoiding postmortem on Bhutto’s body, washing the crime scene and taking her caravan through a risky route instead of the proper route.

He said Bhutto’s husband Asif Ali Zardari did not allow an autopsy to be performed so Aziz could not send Bhutto’s body for postmortem. He agreed that a postmortem report would have been helpful in the investigation. As per the law of the land, he said, if relatives of the deceased do not allow an autopsy to be performed, the police cannot conduct one.

Sultan said investigations had proved that Musharraf was involved in the murder and army officials acting of Musharraf’s orders gave directions for the crime scene to be washed. He said Major Nadeem Ijaz of military intelligence had given the orders on the phone.

He said that it was on the record that Baituallah Mehsood was sending Bhutto death threats so it was Musharraf’s responsibility to ensure her security. Musharraf, he said, left holes in the security cover perhaps to facilitate the attackers.

The counsel also said that on December 27, SP Khurrum Shahzad was on duty while Aziz had gone for security duty for Nawaz Sharif who had also been present in the city.

He said suspects arrested had confessed to the crime and one of them, Rafaqat, in his statement had said that Aziz had no link with the plan of the attack or the attackers.

Later counsel for the federation, Azhar Chaudhry, told the court that according to the security plan prepared on December 25, Aziz’s duty was in Liaquat Bagh so he wrongly claimed that he was on security for Sharif. He said at the time of the blast no police official was present on site and her original route, which might have been a bit safer, was altered under some master plan to aid the attackers. He said though Musharraf is responsible for the murder, the security from the site was removed on the directions of Aziz as he was chief of the city police at that time.

The counsel for the federation was giving his arguments but proceedings were adjourned as court time came to an end. The court adjourned the hearing till today.

Typical roadside gossip monger and living in dreanworld about the so called powers of Pakistan....your country is in shambles, and India has bettered you in every field including forces.remember 71 or shud u need a reminder.....you will never be as good as Indians and so will get cheap thrills by claiming to be strong where as you deep down inside u know the truth. you are a failed nation. You are jealous of India. But you can never accept it.See where u are today and where are we....Feel sorry for you.
BOLOCH | 13 years ago | Reply @Khan, I have served PA for 25 years, You innocence make me smile only. Why kargil was conducted? Well right after indian N test, India started to send clear massage to GHQ that you better bow down to india from now on, We will nuke you! we will sanction you through our friends in west, now those sanctions were army related since economic sanctions were already in place now Even when Pakistan was about to N test of her own. India had total plan for surgical strikes in Pakistani sites. Even after 28 may India was kept bulling on many international and continental levels. India thought that Pakistan will never start a war with india and bow down for ever, Pakistan will not be able to use Nuclear against india since in N-war scenario Pakistan had 10 devices and india had close to 18-20 and india had total capability to destroy entire Pakistani population where as Pakistan had capability to eliminate only 60% indian population, which means no Pakistan but still weak india will stay on map. India was over estimating Pakistan this was the reason to put india back to her place and GHQ launched kargil opertaion "operation badar" It was the operation to put india in reality to show that Pakistan will not be pushed around as you have thought. Surly high ends in indian establishment got the clear picture and dared not to even think of using Nuclear weapons. Even India during operation declared that india will not use Nuclear weapons where as Pakistan was instead declared that if india opened any other front, Pakistan reserve the right to use all force on table, get your fact straight kid, How dare you fabricate history of Pakistani armed forces. It was one of the best controlled damage operation which was even taught in world wide war schools even up to today. You kids have no idea how world works, Keep your dirty politics out of GHQ department, If sarife had not ran to USA we would have cut the supply line of indian forces, but Sarif ordered on the behalf of USA that PAF will not be involved in this operation. Even then PAF shot down two indian jets and one helicopter and israeli drone. It was a mare show of power by Pakistan to all enemy countries that Pakistan is also a power and don't take us light, This is why every time from 2000 to 2008 india never dared to attack Pakistan but only talked high, from parliament attack and placing 1 million army on boarders to surgical strikes of 2008. If Pakistan didn't have kargil. India surely had mistakenly attacked Pakistan on any such event. Up to today india knows better not to lay hand on Pakistan. Get your facts straight.
