KARACHI: Karachi is a metropolitan city with a diverse population of almost 27.51 million people. With such a huge number of residents, the city is bound to have the busiest roads in the country with a heavy flow of traffic during most times, especially peak office hours.
As a result, it becomes important for the incumbent government to devise a strategy that helps curtail this situation. And one of the major problems the motorists face, which hinders a smooth flow of traffic, is the movement of heavy-duty vehicles on the roads during the day.
These vehicles not only halt the traffic flow but also impose danger as some of their drivers recklessly drive on the roads and sometimes break signals, causing fatal accidents. If advised on their driving skills, the drivers reply rudely not only to citizens but also to traffic wardens. Sometimes the consignment they carry is also carelessly loaded and may, perhaps, result in fatal accidents if it falls on the cars beside it.
The management and the government concerned should train drivers to properly load their vehicles and also lay down guidelines to follow while driving. And if they are caught violating them, their licence should be revoked.
