Khattak seeks ‘due share’ in net hydel profit

Asks Nepra to play its constitutional role in this regard

PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak urged National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) to play its constitutional role in ensuring that the province gets its due share in the net hydel profit.

Khattak urged the authority to play its role while leading a delegation comprising the KP assembly parliamentary leaders to the public hearing in a Tariff Petition filed by WAPDA before Nepra on Thursday.

The CM stated that last year after great efforts the profit paid to the province was uncapped from Rs6 billion and increased to Rs19 billion but that was purely a temporary arrangement.

Khattak pointed out that they do not want to put any extra burden on the consumers but electricity produced at 0.55 per unit from K-P’s hydel power station was sold at an average rate of Rs10.45 per unit.  He added that based on the rate the share of the province amounted to over Rs100 billion a year.

K-P’s hydel profit increases three-fold

He said that this share of the province in the net hydel profit was used to subsidise the expensively generated electricity at other sources.

Khattak also told Nepra that K-P could not consume its share of 13.5 per cent of electricity because of the constraints of Pesco which have been ignored for the last few decades.

The delegation also included provincial ministers Sikandar Sherpao, Anisazeb Tahirkhieli, Enayatullah Khan, Atif Khan, and MPAs Sardar Aurangzeb Nalotha and Nighat Orakzai respectively from PML-N and PPP.
