RAWALPINDI: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench has been urged by a group of concerned citizens to halt reconstruction and re-carpeting work on the Mall Road in Murree.
The petitioners, Murree Citizens Forum - a non-profit organisation working for rights of the Murree residents, have argued that the construction work would affect businesses and the green belt along the road.
While hearing the petition, Justice Habibullah Amir of LHC’s Rawalpindi bench on Thursday issued notices to the Punjab planning and development department secretary, urban sector planning and management unit chief executive officer, and the road restoration project director.
These officials have been asked to submit their written response to the petition till June 20. Filed through Advocate Maulvi Zeeshanul Haque, the petition states that the Mall Road had been built by the British in 1846 when it was declared as a hill station and the summer headquarters.
