Pakistan snooker to hire foreign coach
“The association is hiring a coach after almost 10 to 15 years,” PBSA joint secretary Arif Tahir told The Express Tribune, “We have finalised our talks with Sanjay Sawant, he is our best option.” According to Tahir, PBSA was looking for an international coach because the senior players in Pakistan do not intend to coach the team officially, therefore when the PBSA President Alamgir Shaikh had met Sawant during 28th Asian Snooker Championship in Thailand, he decided to hire him.
Shaikh said that the coach will be hired for a three-month coaching programme and will train the Pakistani cueists in three phases for the three major international events to be held later this year. The first session tentatively would begin before the Asian Games 2010 followed by two other sessions for the preparation of World Snooker Championship and 8-nation championship, scheduled to be held in Pakistan. Sawant’s appointment will be finalised by the Pakistan Sports Board (PBS) when they approve the Rs1 million fee for the coaching program.
