RAWALPINDI: A SHO, who had been sacked for beating a 59-year-old traffic warden, tried in vain to get a case registered against the traffic police chief.

Race Course police on Thursday refused to register an FIR on the complaint of Westridge police station’s former SHO SI Malik Asif against the chief traffic officer (CTO), a DSP and four other traffic officials for allegedly obstructing him from carrying out his official duties.

Armed with a court order issued by Additional Sessions Judge Sajida Chaudhry on May 30 for registration of an FIR against CTO Yousaf Shahid, DSP Headquarters Taimoor Khan and four unnamed traffic officials, Asif had filed an application with the Race Course police.

In the application, Asif alleged that on May 17 he went to the office of SP Potohar to attend a meeting as SHO Westridge. He said that Faiz Ahmed, a traffic warden, stopped him from entering the premises in his private car. He said that the CTO and the DSP sided with the warden and obstructed him from carrying out his official duties.

On the other hand, Race Course Police on May 17 registered an FIR against Asif and five of other policemen for thrashing Ahmed for stopping a private car of SHO Westridge from entering the traffic office. Meanwhile, a police officer at the Race Course precinct claimed that the court order did not direct the police to register the case.

CTO Yousaf said that a case had already been registered and investigations were underway. He added that the police had CCTV footage from the gate showing how badly Asif and other policemen had thrashed the old traffic warden.
