40 people booked for maltreating health officer

FAISALABAD: At least 40 people, including four vaccinators were booked on charges of misbehaving with the district health officer in Faisalabad on Thursday.

A police official said DHO Muhammad Asif Shehzad moved a complaint before Rail Bazaar police, contending that 40 persons, including vaccinators Muhammad Ahmad, Muhammad Waqas, Aftab and Imran had attacked his office and misbehaved, maltreated and humiliated him. The assailants also hurled threats of dire consequences, besides besieging his office and confining him illegally, the DHO added.

On the complaint, police have registered a case and started search for the accused.

Eight power pilferers nabbed

Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) arrested eight people involved in electricity theft. Police said FESCO task force teams conducted raids at Haveli Majhoka, Sahiwal, Bhera and adjoining areas and caught eight people red handed for stealing electricity from main transmission line. The accused were identified as Muhammad Yousaf, Altaf, Aftab, Anwaar, Muhammad Iqbal and others. On the report of FESCO authorities, the police have registered cases against the accused.

Meanwhile, the special price control magistrates during a campaign against overcharging imposed a fine of Rs1.6 million on 156 profiteers during the last three days. The teams visited 96 markets, bazaars across the district and imposed the fine, said the officials.

Factory sealed

A team of Punjab Food Authority (PFA) sealed a fake beverage factory in Tajpura. A PFA spokesperson said the team, on a tip-off, conducted raid in Tajpura area and unearthed a fake beverage factory where spurious drink was being prepared by using injurious chemicals and colours.

The PFA team seized 6,000 bottles and 15,000 litres of the drink which was destroyed on the spot.

The team also sealed the factory and further action against factory owner was under progress, he added.
