Even though Griffin called the picture an "expression of art", people with different political views agreed she had gone too far and united on Twitter to slam her photoshoot.

Griffin's 'New Year's Eve Live' co-host also tweeted that he found the display 'disgusting,'

"I caption this 'there was blood coming out of his eyes, blood coming out of his ... wherever,'" Griffin wrote on her Twitter account when she shared the video of her photo shoot, making a reference to Trump's comments toward Megyn Kelly during the Republican presidential debates. She followed it with a tweet clarifying she didn't condone violence towards the president and the photo shoot was only mocking him.

CNN released a statement as, saying: "We found what she did disgusting and offensive. We are pleased to see she has apologised and asked that the photos be taken down. We are evaluating New Year’s Eve and have made no decisions at this point."
