LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday gave the federal government two days to submit a report from the review board over the detention of Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed and his four aides.

Saeed and others viz, Prof Malik Zafar Iqbal, Abdur Rehman Abid, Qazi Kashif Hussain and Abdullah Ubaid had moved the LHC against their detention and a subsequent extension to it.

Under the court orders, the federal government had to produce the detained persons before the review board and get back to the court with its report. According to the court, the review board is the competent authority to decide whether or not to make an extension in the detention period.

Hafiz Saeed, aides' house arrest extended for 90 more days

During Monday’s hearing, the counsel for the federal government requested the court to give it two days to submit the review board’s decision. Accepting the request, the court granted two days to the federal government.

The five JuD men were, on January 31, put under house arrest by the Punjab government under the directives of the interior ministry for a period of 90 days. An extension of 90 days was then made in the house arrest on April 30.
