Saving charitable organisations from corruption

Letter May 27, 2017
Authorities should control such activities in order to save public interest

LAHORE: Everyone knows that government institutions are plagued with corruption. However, people still have faith in charitable institutions, many of whom are doing a commendable job. One of them is LRBT Eye Hospital, Lahore.

It is providing relief to poor people in the field of eye care. But for the last few years it has also been in the grip of some odd practices. Machinery, lenses and other equipment are being purchased at hefty prices without following SOPs as well as bypassing the purchase committee. All the doctors who raised their voices against this practice or tried to halt them have been shown the door.

The authorities concerned should control such activities in various charitable institutions in order to save public interest. It is time to save such prestigious institutions in the interest of poor people.
