The students allegedly received threats by extremists during their stay in India
KARACHI: Every year, at least over 100 of Pakistanis go abroad to pursue higher education. And unfortunately, every year there is news of a Pakistani student being assaulted by racists, some of whom are random strangers walking on the streets.
According to a recent news story, a Pakistani-American student was found unconscious, lying in a pool of her own blood in the stairway of an apartment building in Australia on May 19th. The 30-year-old student was lucky to have survived the incident. Although the incident is yet to be ruled out as one of bigotry, in the wake of increasing xenophobia, similar cases over the years have been on the rise. In the beginning of the month, a delegation of Pakistani students and their teachers were forced to cut short their visit to India owing to growing tensions between the two neighbouring countries. The students allegedly received threats by extremists during their stay in India.
Unfortunately, the ongoing war on terror in the region has gravely tormented the lives of many Pakistanis living abroad and the youth trying to make their lives better through pursuing education abroad. While trying to improve the living standards of citizens living in the country, the authorities concerned should also facilitate its overseas Pakistanis.
