Women in police

Inclusion of women in law enforcement agencies only means there is a better response to community needs

LAHORE: On Friday, Lahore appointed its very first female SHO after 17 years, Ghazala Sharif, at the Rang Mahal Police Station and sub-inspector Nabila Kausar has been appointed the SHO of the women’s Race Course Police Station.

This is a commendable move by the authorities concerned, to include more women at top positions in the police force across the country. Karachi already has two of its police stations run by two female SHOs. Another cities should also follow suit as such a move will not only acknowledge the efforts of our women working in the field but will also motivate more women to join the forces and inspire our girls to be ambitious.

In fact, inclusion of women in law enforcement agencies only means there is a better response to community needs. This is because women often approach and solve problems from a different angle than their male counterparts and together complement each other, providing an alternative perspective on problems.
