Routing a healthy flow of traffic

The authorities concerned can still take the initiative and draw up routes to maintain a healthy flow of traffic

KARACHI: The ongoing road construction in some of Karachi’s most-frequented areas have become a source of torment for the general public. Rather than providing traffic relief, it has only contributed to an increase in it. Although the construction has been rather quick in some areas, the resultant traffic jams owing to other under-construction sites have only caused more congestion. For instance, previously commuting from DHA to Gulshan merely took an hour. But now the same distance in kilometres takes a minimum of two hours. So if you have left work by six in the evening, the probability of you reaching your destination by nine in the night is very high.

This is not to say the construction should not have been commenced but instead, well-thought out routes should have been drawn up and passed on to motorists to use. This would have highly helped in smooth flow of traffic than complete blockages for hours. However, considering that the construction will not be completing anytime soon, the authorities concerned can still take the initiative and draw up routes to maintain a healthy flow of traffic.
