“SCBA secretary Aftab Bajwa has indulged into activities unbecoming of a learned office-bearer of this apex association. He has not only acted beyond his mandate but also committed gross misconduct by misbehaving with learned members,” said a press statement.
Citing clause 37 of SCBA rules, the members by majority votes suspended Bajwa from performing functions as secretary SCBA and appointed Badar Munir in his place. “It is clarified that henceforth Aftab Bajwa will not act/function as SCBA secretary.”
The committee resolved not to participate in a lawyers convention hosted by the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) on Saturday with regards to the Panama Papers case.
“The misconceived announcement that SCBA is a co-host of this convention is also a misstatement as the committee, in its 9th meeting on May 2 in Islamabad, had not decided in this regard,” read the communiqué.
PPP can play decisive role in LHCBA movement
“The committee also resolved that matter be immediately reported to Pakistan Bar Council, the regulating body, for appropriate orders/action,” it added.
The LHCBA had last month joined the opposition in demanding Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s resignation after the apex court’s Panamagate verdict, threatening him with a countrywide movement “larger than the one in 2007 for the restoration of the judiciary” if he did not step down within seven days.
Members had also announced to hold a lawyers convention to finalise future strategy following the verdict.
