JPP, Ajoka Theatre roll out radio series to highlight flaws in Pakistani legal structure

Initiative aims to humanise death row,erode societal vilification of inmates

Justice Project Pakistan (JPP) has launched an eight-part radio series titled Qaid Kahani in collaboration Ajoka Theatre to tell fictionalised accounts of real life stories from Pakistani gallows.

The episodes can be listened to on the organisation's official website at www.jpp.org.pk.

These stories have been narrated in a way that every story humanises the death row to erode the hatred, taboo and vengeance seen through the eyes of society towards this vilified group.

Each 15-minute episode underscores an element that encapsulates the country's faulty legal infrastructure.

The series fuses reenactments, narration, poetry, song, interviews and case histories to tell these accounts.

JPP aims to humanise the non-profit's demonised clients who either face the death penalty or were executed in the past.

It also hopes to alter the view of the death penalty as it is currently administered in Pakistan.

The radio series is being touted as a novel form of public advocacy.
