Umar, Junaid fined for war of words

PCB penalises duo for an incident that took place during Pakistan Cup

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has imposed a fine of 50% of match fee on middle-order batsman Umar Akmal and left-arm pacer Junaid Khan for their misconduct in the recently concluded Pakistan Cup.

According to the statement issued by the board on Tuesday, both players have also been put under observation for a period of one month, starting from May 18.

The incident took place last month during the domestic 50-over tournament which was held in Rawalpindi, where Umar — who was the captain of the Punjab team — claimed that neither him nor the team management had any idea of Junaid's whereabouts.

Junaid, in reply, posted a video on social media and rejected the claims of his captain. The Matra-born pacer also revealed that his absence was due to a fever and that he had informed the team management of his condition.

After the match, PCB announced that the incident will be investigated, following which the penalties was announced today.

The duo are a part of the 15-member Pakistan squad that will take part in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy in England.

Umar has so far represented the national team in 116 ODIs, whereas Junaid has made 58 appearances for the Men-in-Green in the same format.
