As spring gives way to the scorching heat of summer, a spate of exhibitions has sprung up to cater to the increased demand for cool summer casuals and party wear.
One amongst these was the Mahnya and Isma Meer exhibition. Jointly held by Mahnya, a small new clothing label, and the Isma Meer shoe collection, the exhibition was a small intimate affair
Mahnya
Tanya Fatah Maskatiya and Maheen Karim are the duo behind Mahnya. Friends and partners, the two launched Mahnya last year to cater to local clientele through small exhibitions and are also stocking at a boutique in Dubai. Maheen Karim has been in business for the last five years under the label Maheen Karim.
The collection consisted of smart casuals and elegant evening wear. The casuals were mostly neutral hued, some with subtle embellishments, others with vibrant embroidery. The formal wear, mostly silks and satins was adorned with refined embroidery and a cool colour palette. The cuts, mostly flowing, retained a western form and silhouette. Although steeply priced — casual outfits starting at Rs8,000, much like most exhibitions crowding the calendar these days, the wares are sure to be picked up fast due to the growing fashion appetite of the uber-chic of the city.
Isma meer
London based Isma Meer’s shoe collection comprised of flat sandals and high heeled evening shoes. The designer has clientele in London, India and South Africa. All her designs are crafted with genuine leather. The flats and platform heels were embellished with rhinestones, and available in an array of colours.
The price ranges were decidedly steep, with flats starting at Rs4,500, with fancier platforms going up to Rs17,000. The designer will be stocking at the Labels outlet.
