RAWALPINDI: Attock police have arrested three kidnappers and recovered an abducted British national of Pakistani origin from their captivity during a raid on Tuesday.

DSP Hazro Fayyaz ul Haq Raja said the kidnappers were caught during an operation near the Bela area when they were trying to shift the victim, Shehzad Khan, to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Shehzad, taken on gunpoint from his home in the Sirka village on April 20, was being transported in a burqa – tied in chains and muffled inside the shroud.

Weapons and a car were also recovered from kidnappers, police said. The arrested kidnappers were identified as Saeen Tufail Malang, Liaqat Ameer and Farid Gull, all from Mardan.

The kidnappers demanded Rs800 million as ransom from the family for safe return of the British national.

In April 2012, a decapitated body of a kidnapped British doctor working for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) was found by the roadside in Quetta.

Sixty-year-old Dr Khalil Rasjed Dale, a Yemen-born British national, was kidnapped on January 5 by armed men near his office in the Chaman Housing Scheme — a high-security zone where offices of all international organisations are located.

Police found Dale wrapped in plastic near the Killi Umar area on the Airport Road. It was then shifted to the Sandeman Provincial Hospital for autopsy.
