KARACHI:

After the 18th Amendment devolution, 126 cultural sites, monuments and historical places have been handed over to Sindh.

Some of the sites are the Makli graveyard, the tombs of the Mirs in Hyderabad, Khudabad Mosque, the tomb of Mian Yar Muhammad Kalhoro and Bhambhore.

The provincial government is working to protect and promote cultural heritage, said Sindh Culture Minister Sassui Palijo. She was reviewing the progress of the devolution subjects on Thursday.

Since many more of these sites are still under the federal government’s jurisdiction, Palijo said, she will take up the issue with it to give them back as well.

Culture secretary Abdul Aziz Uqaili told Palijo that a committee has been formed to assess their liabilities, belongings, property, etc. A focal person will liaise with the ministry.
