University, police initiate separate inquiries into death of 19-year-old Muhammad Masab Qazi

HYDERABAD: A university bus has claimed the life of yet another varsity student, taking the total deaths to three in the past few months.

The latest casualty happened at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) on Sunday night.

Muhammad Masab Qazi, 19, a first-year student of computer system engineering, died after falling off a bus. However, the cause of his fall is yet to be ascertained, as both the university and police have initiated separate inquiries.

The incident happened on campus near the gymnasium. Qazi, whose family belongs to Benazirabad district, was taken to Liaquat University Hospital but he declared dead.

Speaking at a condolence reference held at the computer system engineering department on Monday, MUET Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Aslam Uqaili said two separate investigations are being conducted into the incident.

According to him, a three-member inquiry committee, headed by Human Resource Director Dr Rizwan Memon will investigate the incident, besides the police who have impounded the bus.

The student's body was given to the family for burial in Benazirabad.
Earlier, two students of Sindh University (SU), Jahanzeb Ali Arain and Shaista Memon, were killed in accidents relating to SU's buses on February 8 and February 16 respectively in Jamshoro.

A nine-year-old school student, Gul Muhammad Shah, was also killed by an SU bus in Hyderabad on March 29.
