Army chief appreciates security forces for ‘winning back dissidents’

Gen Qamar visits Karachi Corps headquarters, gets briefed on continuing surgical operation, and Op Radd-ul-Fasaad

Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa has appreciated the role of intelligence agencies and security in forces in “winning back dissidents and anti-national elements into the national mainstream”.

The statement came a day after he visited Awaran in Balochistan. According to sources, intelligence officials briefed him about Baloch insurgents, who are now joining mainstream politics.

Speaking at the Karachi Corps headquarters on Sunday, the COAS reiterated that efforts will continue till restoration of complete normalcy in Karachi and the rest of Sindh, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

The continuing surgical operation in Karachi against criminal elements began in September 2013.


Gen Qamar appreciates army’s welfare efforts in Thar

According to the military’s media wing, Gen Qamar was briefed on Karachi’s security situation, progress of Operation Raddul Fasaad, which was initiated in February this year following a country-wide terror wave, and support to census in Sindh.

“The COAS appreciated the efforts of Pakistan Army and Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) for their contributions towards successful execution of these assignments,” the statement said. “Peace in Karachi is vital for stability in Pakistan.”

The much-awaited census exercise in the country began in March this year, after a period of 19 years.
