KARACHI: Punjab Finance Minister Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha said that the provincial government was more focused on expansion of tax net, instead of imposing new taxes on people. Addressing overseas investors during a session organised at the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Pasha said measures have been adopted to improve the tax structure in Punjab. “Our motive is to strengthen the economy and provide relief to the masses, therefore, instead of raising the tax rate, we are trying to increase the number of taxpayers,” she said. She added that a computerised system was already in place under which service-cum-luxury sector, including boutiques, beauty parlours, restaurants and salons have been brought under the tax net.
