Lahore schoolboys seek bail for ‘hurling death threats’

Both accused say the allegations are far removed from reality

LAHORE: After taking leave from school, two bewildered minors appeared before a district and sessions court to obtain pre-arrest bail on charges of hurling death threats over a property dispute.
Muhammad Saqib, a class-VIII student, appeared before the court of the sessions judge, who issued a notice to the state and summoned the police record of this case.
The minors seemed confused over the whole process when their thumb impressions were recorded in previous bail hearings.
An additional district and sessions judge had already dismissed their previous pre-arrest bail petitions. In response, the two boys Saqib, Amir and their mother Sajida Bibi filed fresh pleas on three occasions before the judge finally issued a notice to the state. On this occasion, the court has ordered that the police record of the case be presented on May 3 (today).

In previous proceedings, counsel for the accused, Advocate Syed Ijaz Hussain Sherazi, contended the minors had been falsely implicated by police officials. He argued that the two had nothing to do with this particular incident.
Talking to The Express Tribune, Advocate Sherazi said the accused had a property issue with their relatives who, in connivance with police officials, got an FIR registered over the matter.
Saqib, meanwhile, said he and his brother belonged to a financially-disadvantaged family and his father worked a gardener. He added the boy wanted to continue with their studies, but the police had implicated them in a false case. He categorically denied threatening anyone and said the allegations were far removed from reality.
