Gwadar Fish Harbour gathering: JI to launch ‘Protect Fishermen Movement’ in country

Haq says those who loot fishermen will be held accountable

QUETTA: Criticising the government for not doing anything for the fishermen community, Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq announced to launch ‘Protect Fishermen Movement’ in the entire country.

He was addressing a huge gathering of fishermen at the Gwadar Fish Harbour on Monday.

He said, “I will hold those accountable who loot fishermen considering them indigent.”

JI will also raise fishermen’s voice in the chambers of the parliament, he said and added that he will fight the war for the poor’s right in the streets of the country.



He said, “JI is fighting the war for the rights of poor farmers, labourers and oppressed people in the entire country. The cruel rulers sitting in the chambers of legislatures in Islamabad have become a curse for the masses due to their corruption, anti-masses policies, price hike, inflation and ignorance.”

He said rights of the poor are being denied by the cruel rulers.

“JI will not allow the local population of Gwadar to turn into a minority. Gwadar belongs to its inhabitants and will remain so. No one can take it away from them,” he added.

Haq also lashed out at the policies of the past governments, saying owing to their mismanagement, the issues in Balochistan aggravated.



Haq said people of Balochistan enjoy exclusive right on the land, mountain and seas which cannot be taken away by anyone.

He said, “No one can capture Gwadar by force and we are not prepared to give a drop of water from our sea to anyone. The people of Balochistan are patriots and if one can see anger on their faces and hatred in their eyes it is the logical outcome of their deprivation.”

“Such a fate has been awarded to them through breach of promises and miscalculated policies,” he said. “The fishermen living across the 1,000km coast from Gwadar to Pasni and Jiwani are Pakistani citizens.”

He was of the view that Balochistan is a province rich in resources and minerals, and home to large reservoirs of gold and copper.



He said, “The ignorance of the plight of the hardworking youth by General (retd) Pervaiz Musharraf and Asif Ali Zardari in the past and now Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has driven them up into the mountains. Backwardness of Balochistan and extreme poverty are gifts from the rulers.”

After his address, Haq had lunch with the fishermen.
