ISLAMABAD: Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry Regional Committee on Industries Chairman Atif Ikram Sheikh has said that the textile and non-textile sector package that was announced in January has still not been implemented.

In a statement, he said the government should also consider devaluing the rupee, which was grossly overvalued, and revise the rates of energy and tackle scarcity of other important inputs. He said delay in implementation of the Rs180 billion package would damage the export sector, which was already in shambles.

He said non-payment of tax refunds had also become a serious issue, damaging exports, which should be resolved immediately by automating the entire system.

“Automatic refunds will result in timely payments to the business community, which will increase exports that are going down for years,” he said.
