Dasu Hydropower Project: WAPDA launches free transport service in Kohistan

LAHORE: The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) on Sunday launched a free transport service for those affected by the Dasu Hydropower Project in Kohistan District of Khyber-Pukhtunkhwa (K-P). The authority has initiated the service for the locals as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR).

WAPDA Chairman lieutenant general (retd) Muzammil Hussain inaugurated the transport service that would follow a 15-kilometer stretch on Karakoram Highway (KKH) from Dasu Bridge to Kaigah Bridge. The 17-seater air-conditioned van would run thrice a day from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm to facilitate students and other people of the area.



In addition to compensating people affected by the power project WAPDA has also allocated a huge amount for uplifting schemes in the area.

The 4,320 MW-Dasu Hydropower project is being constructed by WAPDA in two stages of 2,160MW each in Kohistan district. The project is of immense importance not only for the country but also for K-P, as it will strengthen the national economy by supplying low-cost hydel electricity to the grid.
