PESHAWAR: To improve communication between police, media and the public, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police has introduced media management principles and trained its public information officers in them, according to a press release issued on Saturday.

In the past 10 years, K-P has faced several terror attacks because of which the police and media’s responsibility has increased and their role has diversified, the statement said.

It added that when terror attacks take place the police rush to secure crime scenes and obtain evidence, while media people also strive to collect as much information as they can to inform their respective audiences.

“Keeping in view this scenario, K-P police has introduced media management rules to people’s access to information through the media in a convenient way,” the statement read.

In trainings, organised at the Police School of Information Technology (IT) Peshawar, Police School of Intelligence Abbottabad and Police Training School Swat, around 44 public relations officers working in all K-P’s districts and some other staff members have been trained in disseminating information to the public about incidents.

Addressing the trainees, DIG Training Muhammad Karim Khan said that when the public seeks any information about an event, they turn to the media and for the media, the police is the main source of information.

Liaison between police and media is a must to ensure quick and fair dissemination of information, he said.

The press release further stated that the trainings of the PROs focused on making press releases, using social media and maintaining professional integrity while doing their job.
