KARACHI: Twenty-nine Indian fishermen were remanded on Friday to jail following their arrest for allegedly violating Pakistan's maritime borders.

The Maritime Security Agency had taken the Indian men into custody on Thursday and impounded five fishing boats for 'illegally' fishing into exclusive economic zone. Later, they were handed over to the Docks police, which booked and arrested them in a case registered under the Foreigners Act, 1946.

On Friday, the police produced the suspects before the West judicial magistrate.

This is the second time in a month that Pakistani forces have arrested Indian fishermen. On March 26, Pakistani authorities had detained 100 Indian fishermen.

On January 28, another 60 Indian fishermen were arrested over maritime border violations.
