KARACHI:
'Muk gaya tera show, go Nawaz go [Your show is over so, you should leave, Nawaz]' were the slogans shouted by a group of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) workers as they entered the sit-in staged in front of the VIP gate of Mazar-e-Quaid on Wednesday.

Holding party flags and wearing caps, the emotionally charged 'jiyalas' were demanding the prime minister's resignation at the sit-in, which was staged in connection with the 'Go Nawaz Go' movement initiated by PPP after the Panama verdict on April 20.

"Enough is enough, it is time for the prime minister to go home now," Rozina Baloch, who came from Malir, said while talking to The Express Tribune, adding that the agreed upon amount of water, electricity and gas is the right of the people of Sindh.

A large number of 'jiyalas' from various areas of Karachi and belonging to different ethnic groups attended the sit-in. Among the PPP leadership, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and his cabinet members, Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani, Senator Sherry Rehman, Senator Saeed Ghani, Senator Aajiz Damrah and MPAs were present.

The protesters had hand-held fans to symbolise the fact that people are still suffering from hours-long load-shedding across the province. Different slogans were inscribed on those fans, such as 'Stop load-shedding' and 'Go Nawaz Go'. The venue was decorated with the photos of former and current party leaders Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto, Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Yaqoob Lasi, a university student who lives in the PPP-dominated Lyari area, was shouting slogans. "Bilawal is the actual representative of youth and will be the upcoming prime minister of Pakistan," he said. When asked what PPP had given to them, he said, "We have unconditional love for the party. Only a jiyala can understand this."

Gul Hasan Shah, a 70-year-old man, told The Express Tribune, "I have come here to show solidarity with PPP in its struggle to ensure the rights of Sindh, which gives more than half of the revenue to the country." He added that it was high time that the PM should resign in the better interest of the country.

The next sit-in will be held on Labour Day (May 1) at Nishtar Park, announced the PPP leadership.
