Cricket, gender and nationalism

May 17, 2010

LAHORE: This is with reference to Dr Rubina Saigol’s piece ‘Cricket, gender and nationalism’ (May 5).

In fact, the gendered and feminine view of victory and defeat is talked because of the traditional and historical view of concept of honour associated with women. But we cannot ignore the fact that now this and many other taboos against women are being challenged by the new realities of the 21st century. Though very difficult but the cracks are certainly visible in such discourses.
