Darkness in ‘the city of lights’

Letter April 26, 2017
Make Karachi ‘the city of lights’ again and facilitate its citizens

KARACHI: Although Karachi is the country’s largest metropolitan city, it is very disappointing to note that at night large part of this city that is home to around 20 million-plus people is completely dark. The unavailability of street lights in the metropolis is alarming. At night, street lights help motorists and commuters to move around the city easily. But in Karachi, which is often referred to as the city of lights, whenever one moves around the city at night there is nothing but darkness.

In fact, the absence of street lights has led to many severe accidents as bike riders are unable to see people crossing the roads and people often are only able to see a car coming from the opposite direction when it is in close proximity to them. Besides, many robberies and snatchings occur under the cover of darkness.

I would like to request the federal as well as the provincial government to make Karachi ‘the city of lights’ again and facilitate its citizens.
