Probe panel finds three FIA officials guilty

Norwegian citizen was beaten up by immigration official over a petty issue at Benazir Bhutto International Airport

ISLAMABAD: An inquiry committee on Saturday found three officials of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) guilty of beating up a woman with Norwegian citizenship.

The inquiry committee, headed by Director Administration of FIA Ahmad Mukkaram also recommended stern disciplinary action against all officials involved.

The committee had submitted a report in this context to the Ministry of Interior on Friday.

According to sources, the three FIA officials have also been charge-sheeted.

The Norwegian citizen was beaten up and tortured by the immigration official over a petty issue at Islamabad’s Benazir Bhutto International Airport on April 15.

Taking action in this regard, the Ministry of Interior ordered the FIA to suspend all officials involved officials at once, launch an investigation and asked the authority concerned to submit a report within three days.

The FIA had already suspended the shift in-charge, Nadeem Akhtar, for failing to control the situation. FIA officials found guilty included Ghazala and Noshila in addition to Akhtar.
