LAHORE: The government needs to focus on immediate construction of dams to meet the water requirements of crops and combating the energy crisis, said former highway police chief Zafar Abbas Lak on Saturday.

He said this while speaking at an international seminar on sustainable crop production for food security under the changing climate at the Punjab University’s Institute of Agricultural Sciences (IAGS).

The one-day moot featured lectures by scientists from various research organisations, academia, agro-industries and progressive farmers.

IAGS Director Prof Dr Saleem Haider said scientists were playing their role in resolving the problems of Pakistani farmers so the country could benefit from agricultural products.

USAID’s Peter A Dickrell highlighted the role of the American aid agency in improving the quality of fruits and vegetables of Pakistan for export and increasing the income of farmers.
