G-B CM directs officials to seek PC-I approval

Assures prosecution of truant officials at Jalkot hospital, construction of girls school

GILGIT: Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) Chief Minister Hafeezur Rehman on Tuesday directed the regional planning and development department to seek quick approval of a PC-I from the concerned quarters for maintenance of roads and other uplift schemes in the region.

Talking to the secretaries of the Local Bodies and Works Departments and a delegation from Jalkot, Rehman said that every segment of the society should play their role in making development projects sustainable.

He directed the Works Department to task contractors to continue work on ongoing projects especially with regard to maintenance of roads during Ramazan to ensure their timely completion.

The chief minister added that reforms had been introduced in the health sector and a comprehensive incentive package had been announced for doctors. He added that a policy to regularise the services of 186 contractual doctors was under consideration.

Referring to facilities in Jalkot, he said the government was trying to improve facilities in the hospital there besides addressing the shortage of staff. He added that they had initiated disciplinary action against all truant employees at the hospital.

Rehman said Rs60 million were provided for completing water supply schemes in Droot, Bargein and Chakar Kot.

He added that work on a Girls High School in Jalkot would start next month. Moreover, committees had been set up in schools and hospitals for overseeing the services provided to people.

Noting that energy sector was a top priority of his government, Rehman said that survey for construction of a five-megawatt power project in Jalkot had been completed.
