Two female polio workers attacked

Police said they had received an application from the health department and were looking into the case

LAHORE: Two female polio workers were beaten up by unidentified men in UC-141 of Nisther Colony on Tuesday. Police said the health workers were on duty to administer polio drops to children in Christian Colony.

A few men harassed and fondled them and also tried to tear their clothes. Upon hearing their screams, people from the neighbourhood gathered outside and helped the women. The neighbours also caught a man identified as Akash, who was later handed over to police.

Police said they had received an application from the health department and were looking into the case.

A province-wide polio immunisation campaign kicked off on Monday. Around 18.7 million children under the age of five years will be immunised during the three-day polio drive.
