Domestic dispute: Man tosses wife, mother-in-law in canal

Local people saved one woman while the other drowned in the canal.

MULTAN: A man allegedly threw his wife and mother-in-law into a canal for demanding divorce on Thursday. Local people saved one woman while the other drowned in the canal.

Bhakkar police said Saima, 26, a resident of Yousuf Shah, District Bhakar, was married to Abdus Sattar, a resident of Layyah, two years ago. The couple had developed differences over domestic issues in the last one year. Saima and her mother Salma wanted to end the marriage and demanded divorce from Abdus Sattar.

Police said Saima filed a petition of divorce in Bhakkar Court and the court had called the couple on April 14. A day before the court hearing, Abdus Sattar kidnapped his wife Saima and mother-in-law Salma from their hometown. According to police, Abdus Sattar threw his wife and mother-in-law in Thal Canal. Local people saved Saima, however, Salma drowned in the canal.

Sexton | 7 years ago | Reply Like some foreigners I could say that it only happens in Pakistan, but unfortunately it is happening everywhere. For example, in Australia, with a small population, I am led to understand that an Australian women is killed every week by her partner.
