Tamasha Festival comes to a close with ‘Suraj Chachu’

Children’s play shed light on environmental issues such as pollution

LAHORE: Maas foundation, one of the core members of ASSITEJ (International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People) Pakistan staged its recent production Suraj Chachu at Alhamra Hall as part of the three-day Tamasha Festival in Lahore.

President Maas Foundation and director of the play Aamir Nawaz revealed that the play was primarily produced for children between the ages of four and six and were glad to see kids show up for the play in numbers.

Suraj Chacha revolved around spreading awareness about the hazards of pollution and how everyone can pitch their two cents in overcoming the environmental crises at large. Written by Aslam Mughal, the cast members included Zaheer Taj, Dr Zoya, Ahmad, Hassan Raza, Safina Malik, Aamir Shahzad and Mujtaba.



Twenty one performances were held during the three-day event, including eight theatre workshops, dance and music workshops and six panel discussions.  According to Nawaz approximately 13000 people attended the festival.

The aim of ASSITEJ is to unite theatres companies, organisations and individuals who focus on children’s’ entertainment across the globe. The initiative was the brainchild of four companies that are the founding members of ASSITEJ Pakistan including Tamasha – Theatre for Young Audience (The Little Art), Mass Foundation, Independent Theatre Pakistan and Chota Mota Theatre.
