Impose a ban on begging

Letter April 12, 2017
Government should facilitate these beggars by providing them with job opportunities according to their capabilities

KARACHI: Street begging is a regular nuisance in Pakistan. It has become an organised profession. From markets to shrines, beggars are found everywhere. Most of the beggars are able bodied who can work for a living if they want to but, unfortunately, they find it easier to live off other people’s money. In fact, they also encourage their children to beg.

The government should facilitate these beggars by providing them with job opportunities according to their capabilities. Begging should be declared illegal and the public should be educated against it. Immediate steps should be taken to put a complete ban on begging.
