Differently-abled teenager burnt alive for resisting rape

The girl died on the way to the hospital, the attacker had already fled the scene

SUKKUR: A differently-abled teenaged girl died on Monday after being set on fire when she resisted the sexual assault in Abro Muhalla Ward No 8, situated in the Tharo Shah police limits in  Naushero Feroz District.

The 14-year-old victim, S*, a resident of Abro Muhalla, was on her way home after playing with her friends when the accused, Shahid Shaikh, lured her to his house. Shaikh allegedly tried to sexually assault the girl, at which point she screamed for help.

Shaikh panicked and set her on fire after pouring petrol on her and fled the scene. Local residents rushed to the deserted house after hearing the girl’s screams and, after extinguishing the fire, shifted her to Tharo Shah Hospital but there was no doctor to attend to her.

Later, as she was being shifted to Civil Hospital, Naushero Feroz, the girl succumbed to her wounds.

When contacted, Tharo Shah Assistant Head Constable Mohammad Ashraf confirmed the incident and said the girl’s father lodged the complaint with the police. He added that the police are conducting raids in different locations to find the accused.
