PESHAWAR: A Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPA on Saturday enrolled his daughter in a government school during the annual enrolment drive, apparently to build the trust of common people in government institutions.

Ziaullah Bangash is the first MPA in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) who admitted his daughter to a government school and urged other lawmakers, politicians, government officers and teachers to enrol their children in government schools as well.

Bangash is affiliated with PTI from Kohat-2, PK-38. He kicked off the enrolment drive in his district and enrolled his daughter Abeeya Zia in Government Girls Primary School Muhammadzai, Kohat.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Bangash said if we want to build people’s trust in government institutions, we have to take the first step. “If our children are enrolled in private schools and we urge people to enrol theirs in government schools, it will be injustice,” the MPA said.

Bangash said the incumbent government has taken serious steps for the promotion of quality education across the province. “I can say for sure that these schools provide quality education as I have checked district education and monitored schools’ performances on a daily and weekly basis,” he said.

The lawmaker said if our government schools provide quality education, there is no need for people to get their children admitted to private schools.

He said every year millions of rupees are spent on education and health so people should benefit from it. He said he prefers government institutions rather than private ones as he recently had his daughter’s surgery in Liaquat Memorial Hospital in Kohat, which is a government hospital. He advised all lawmakers and government officials to use government machineries instead of private schools and hospitals to build the trust of people.

It is pertinent to mention here that the K-P government launched school enrolment drives across the province on April 8 and set a target of 900,000 children for enrolment in schools.
