A French woman has given birth to a baby girl during an Istanbul-bound Turkish Airlines flight.

Guinean Diaby Nafi gave birth to ‘Kadiju’ mid-flight with the help of the trained cabin crew on Friday as the aircraft was on its way from Conakry, Guinea to the Turkish city.

The woman, said to hold French citizenship, developed labour pain shortly after the flight took off from the African country.

“The mother gave birth while standing, and we received help from several other passengers,” Bouthayna İnanır, one of the flight attendants who helped in the delivery told Hurriyet Daily News. “The cabin crew chief cried tears of joy after the birth."

The aircraft made an emergency landing in Burkina Faso’s Ouagadougou to get emergency medical assistance to the mother and her newborn before continuing on to Istanbul. Both are said to be in good health and under medical supervision.
