Supreet Kaur, 28, an anchor at IBC24, read out the breaking report of a car accident which killed three people, including her husband.
Kaur routinely relayed the report on Saturday morning, after a local reporter called to give details about the accident, which involved a Renault Duster travelling along the same route as her husband. Kaur's composure left her colleagues shocked as she continued unfazed.
Have television anchors become too powerful in India?
The reporter, without mentioning names, said a total of five people were travelling in the vehicle, of which three died on the spot. The details were enough for Kaur to identify immediately that one of the deceased could be her husband as he was also travelling with four other people in a Renault Duster along the same route where the incident occurred.
The 28-year-old had an emotional breakdown, but only after completing the news hour. “She is an extremely brave lady. We are proud of her as an anchor, but what happened today has left us in shock,” said a colleague.

“She got a sense that it was her husband’s vehicle. She read the bulletin and it was only when she came out of the studio that she started calling her relatives,” a senior editor added. The editor said the staffers knew Kaur's husband had died in the accident, but did not have the courage to tell her.
