Party wants attitude towards its workers, leaders to change

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) – Pakistan has said that if it is not given political space then disappointment prevalent among Muhajirs regarding being perceived as second-class citizens will increase.
Addressing a press conference at the party’s makeshift headquarters in PIB Colony, senior deputy convener Amir Khan said that his fellow workers were unlawfully and unconstitutionally being arrested and booked in false cases.

He asserted that the authorities’ policy towards the party should have changed after the August 23 press conference in which it disassociated itself from its founder, Altaf Hussain, and other leadership in London.
He mentioned the names of some of his party workers and said that they were picked up in recent days and forcibly detained.

He said that the arrested people were not wanted in any case and their families were worried about them because the law enforcement agencies had not yet presented them in courts.
“If there are cases against them, proper legal procedure should be followed with their right to fair trial observed,” Khan said, adding that his party wanted political freedom to do its activities.
He also alleged that his workers were also being pressurised by people in Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) to join ranks with them or else face jail and trial.
