ISLAMABAD:

The protesting LHWs have intensified their campaign by announcing a countrywide strike and boycott of the upcoming anti-polio campaign.

The LHW’s have announced that they will gather in front of press clubs around the country today (Saturday) and hold protest demonstrations.

Bushra Arain, the chairperson of the All Pakistan Lady Health Worker’s Employees Association, told The Express Tribune they will continue their protest till their demands are met. During protests today, the LHWs will present themselves for arrest to the police “jail bharo” movement, said Arain.

At a news conference in Lahore on Friday, PML-Q MNA Marvi Memon and Arain said they were falsely implicated under the terrorist act as media reports have proved that no death took place when they blocked the road.

“After failing to catch real terrorists, the government has now started registering cases against MNAs who are fighting for the rights of the people,” Memon said.

Meanwhile, PML-Q president Chaudhry Shujat Hussain has condemned the maltreatment of his party’s MNA and the health workers.
